Value-added exports represent a strategic pillar for JFS-RESET in transforming Mozambican agriculture, with a particular focus on certified cotton and other locally processed products. JFS-RESET integrates international certifications, such as the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and Regenagri, which not only ensure high environmental and social standards but also enhance the competitiveness of value-added cotton exports. This strengthens access to demanding global markets while promoting sustainable practices across the cotton production and processing sector.

Mozambique has a long-standing tradition in cotton cultivation, historically being one of the country’s main agricultural export products. The introduction of traceability standards, sustainable practices, and technical support to production has enabled Mozambican cotton to meet international quality standards, generating higher economic returns for farmers and local value chains.

JFS-RESET goes beyond exporting raw fiber; the organization has been actively linking production with domestic cotton processing, connecting the agricultural sector to processing units and creating higher value-added products. This strategy reduces dependence on raw material exports, allowing the country to capture more value within its own production chain and improve its trade balance.

In addition to cotton, there are emerging opportunities in derived products, such as cottonseed oil and its by-products, which can be marketed both domestically and internationally. These diversified products contribute to strengthening Mozambique’s industrial sector and offer new potential export streams with added value, supporting inclusive economic growth in rural areas.

Value-added exports—supported by recognized certifications, local processing, and integrated value chains—are helping to build a more resilient and competitive foundation for Mozambican agricultural products in the global context, generating greater economic returns for rural communities and driving sustainable development.

JFS-RESET is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This analysis is linked to several SDGs. The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
