ACCESS TO QUALITY AGRICULTURAL INPUTS

JFS-RESET’s commitment to sustainable agriculture is reflected in its strategy of providing farmers with high-quality agricultural inputs, strictly adhering to standards for non-GMO seeds and approved pesticides. By ensuring compliance with industry standards, RESET not only enhances productivity but also promotes environmentally responsible farming practices.

RESET’s inputs are delivered through a structured support system that includes training on good agricultural practices and access to credit, enabling farmers to effectively integrate these inputs into their operations. This technical framework is supported by a network of field technicians and local agents, ensuring the safe and efficient adoption of improved seeds, equipment, and fertilizers.

JFS-RESET implements a community-focused distribution model, providing approximately USD 1.1 million in agricultural inputs on credit each year, which farmers repay at the time of cotton sales. This model ensures timely access to production inputs, with a 92% recovery rate among farmers who sold cotton. Transactions are managed through mobile devices, with digital registration and receipt issuance, promoting transparency and trust in the system.

Despite its success, baseline data indicates that 14% of registered beneficiaries are non-existent or inactive (“ghost farmers”), while 8% do not repay or produce sufficient output to cover their credit. These findings highlight the importance of local supervision and continuous validation of beneficiary farmers.

In addition to credit, RESET provides agricultural tools free of charge, including ultra-low volume applicators (ULVA), jute bags, and measuring tubes for crop spacing. ULVA sprayers are shared within farmer groups, ensuring proper maintenance and collective use aligned with responsible agricultural practices.

This integrated model promotes not only food security but also local economic resilience. By equipping farmers with reliable tools and inputs, it enhances productivity, reduces dependency on external actors, and supports sustainable agricultural growth in rural Mozambique.

JFS-RESET also collaborates with local and international partners to continuously review and improve input offerings, prioritizing the introduction of environmentally friendly solutions adapted to the Mozambican context, such as biofertilizers, climate-resilient seeds, and soil conservation techniques.

These practices position RESET as a strategic contributor to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

RESET is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study is linked to several SDGs. The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
