Strengthening Resilience Through Diversified Agriculture

Access to Food Security and Crop Diversification
JFS-RESET recognizes the essential role of food security in supporting rural communities in Mozambique, especially in cotton-growing areas. In these regions, cotton is cultivated alongside diverse food crops, selected according to the preferences of farming families. Consequently, the training, inputs, and technical support provided by JFS-RESET are geared towards improving both cotton and food production.
In collaboration with the FNDS – National Fund for Sustainable Development – and in coordination with the District Services for Economic Activities (SDAE), JFS-RESET co-designed and implemented the SUSTAINABLE COTTON program, benefiting more than 1,000 farmers with corn, bean, and soybean inputs in 2020 and 2021. In 2024/25, the program was expanded to 15,000 cotton farmers in the Niassa districts, promoting the use of improved seeds and agricultural practices geared towards food security and market inclusion. The partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and TechnoServe contributes to improving the added value of the production chain, particularly in soybeans, through local processing with family farmers.
By diversifying crops, JFS-RESET enables farmers to reduce their economic and environmental vulnerability while ensuring a stable food base for families. This comprehensive rural development model improves environmental sustainability and strengthens community cohesion while boosting the local agricultural economy.
RESET is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study is linked to several SDGs. The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
