JFS-RESET's strategy to improve farmers' access to technology, financial services, and essential resources is firmly anchored in strengthening sustainable agricultural development and promoting rural economic resilience. Recognizing the central role of agriculture in the livelihoods of rural communities, the organization has focused on empowering farmers with modern tools, agricultural equipment, and advanced technical training in sustainable practices. This integrated approach aims to increase productivity, improve income generation, and ensure long-term agricultural viability.

Diagnosis and concrete solutions for rural financial inclusion.

Since 2020, JFS-RESET has deepened its understanding of the barriers smallholder farmers face in accessing formal financial services. A study conducted by the organization revealed that most farmers in rural areas are excluded from the financial system due to the absence of banking institutions, products poorly adapted to local realities, and low levels of financial literacy. The high cost of implementing traditional financial services further exacerbates this exclusion, leaving farmers without access to credit and savings – fundamental elements for economic stability.

To address this challenge, JFS-RESET, in collaboration with FSD Mozambique and other strategic entities, developed financial products adapted to the rural context. Training manuals and financial literacy content were created and integrated into its farmer capacity-building program. Simultaneously, a digital solution using e-wallets for payments and savings in remote areas was tested, although the progress of this initiative was limited by the weak coverage of the national network of mobile banking agents.

Strategic partnership with Vodafone Mozambique

In 2024, JFS-RESET partnered with VODAFONE Mozambique to create innovative financial solutions that address current operational limitations and the specific needs of agricultural communities. This collaboration aims to accelerate access to rural credit, facilitate digital payments, and promote savings as a tool for resilience.

Access to financial services is a key factor in increasing agricultural productivity, allowing farmers to invest in improved seeds, agricultural inputs, irrigation, and appropriate technologies. More than just credit, fostering a culture of saving strengthens financial security and prepares farmers to face economic or climatic shocks.

RESET is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study is linked to several SDGs. The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
