Innovative Research for Sustainable and Inclusive Agriculture in Mozambique

Since 2022, JFS-RESET and the RESET Foundation have been bringing together critical knowledge in a Living Library, coordinating several innovative research projects aimed at addressing key challenges related to agriculture, poverty reduction, and sustainability in Mozambique. These initiatives combine applied science, local expertise, and regenerative solutions focused on the future of rural communities.
Among the main lines of research, the following stand out:
Soil Fertility Monitoring – Development of practical techniques and tools to measure and monitor soil fertility, with a view to increasing agricultural productivity in a sustainable way and adapted to the local context.
Study of the Factors that Determine Cotton Productivity – In-depth analysis of the variables that most influence cotton crop yield, essential for improving the economic results of small producers.
Field Trials on Crop Intercropping – Research conducted directly in farmers' fields, testing the simultaneous planting of different crops to promote better soil use, ecological health, and crop resilience.
Agroforestry Systems and Syntropic Farming – Studies on sustainable agricultural methods that integrate trees and diverse crops, promoting biodiversity, soil regeneration, and adaptation to climate change.
Feasibility Study for a Carbon Project Based on Agroforestry Cotton – Evaluating the feasibility of implementing a model that generates carbon credits, involving small producers in practices that benefit the climate and generate new sources of income.
Research on Crops for Biodiesel Production – Identifying the best crops adapted to Mozambican territory for biofuel production, promoting renewable energy sources in rural areas.
Organic Cotton Production Trials – Research into sustainable techniques for the production of organic cotton, contributing to markets with higher added value and responsible agricultural practices.
Biopesticide Trials and Intercropping in Agricultural Stations – Experiments evaluating the use of natural pesticides in conjunction with crop intercropping, reducing environmental impact and improving pest control.
Studies with Biochar – Analysis of the application of biochar (treated charcoal) as a soil enricher, increasing water retention, fertility, and overall crop productivity.
Low-Cost Tools for Increasing Production – Development of accessible methods and tools that help smallholder farmers improve their yields with low initial investment.
Factors Influencing Participation in Cotton Production – Research on the socioeconomic factors influencing farmers' participation in cotton production, aiming to adjust support and training strategies.
Through this collaborative and scientific approach, JFS-RESET and the RESET Foundation continue to invest in regenerative and people-centered agriculture, promoting a fairer, more productive and resilient rural future for Mozambique.
